Trusts and foundations
Due to the misunderstandings about M.E. it is a less popular cause amongst the public than many others, which means we are currently unable to raise income from the general public. For this reason, support from Trusts and Foundations is vital to ensure that Action for M.E. can continue to improve the lives of people with this horrible illness.
During the last year support from Trusts and Foundations has enabled us to:
- Help to establish a press function at Action for M.E. - We have been able to challenge people's perceptions of the reality and seriousness of M.E. on a massive scale by communicating with, and educating, over 16 million readers and listeners in the UK.
- Undertake a national consultation with over 1,200 people by working in partnership with the Disability Alliance, The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and the All Party Parliamentary Group for M.E. The results of which enabled us to produce a report, for the Department for Work and Pensions, entitled No one written off - problems and potential solutions for people affected by chronic fluctuating conditions. This continues to ensure that the voices of people with M.E. are heard by those setting the welfare agenda.
- Continue to fill the gaps in the current void of information and support through provision of our comprehensive Information and Support Service. People are empowered by taking informed steps to improve their health and deal with the wider impact of M.E. In 2008, Action for M.E. responded to over 200,000 requests for information and support through our website, publications by post service, InterAction magazine and one-to-one telephone Information and Support Services.
- The Future - planning for a better life for people with M.E. The needs of people with M.E. and their families so greatly outweigh the support and services available to them. If they are to overcome these injustices, we have an obligation to continue to enhance the capacity, effectiveness and influence of Action for M.E. We are the only charity with the potential, the inclination and the leadership to address the inequalities that they face. To do so requires a major increase in the scale of our operations. The preparation of a strategic plan to grow in this way and to transform the lives of people of M.E., for the better, is taking shape. Our current Trust supporters are as committed to this development as we are.
We are committed to building long-term relationships with our supporters by providing an excellent record of communication. We offer detailed project information that fits a Trust's interests, and regular updates on work being funded.
