National ME/CFS Observatory

In March 2006, Action for M.E received over £500,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to establish a National ME/CFS Observatory. The grant allows us to fund a coherent programme of research into the causes and distrubution of M.E

The Observatory consists of a network of academic institutions with complementary interests in M.E and CFS. The project is co-ordinated by Dr Derek Pheby, an epidemiologist, former member of the Chief Medical Officer's Working Group on CFS/ME and former trustee of Action for M.E

The Observatory aims to produce and support the development of social and epidemiological research which responds to the needs of the M.E community. There are 14 researchers involved at the University of East Anglia, three at Hull-York Medical School and two from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. It is hoped that in due course, other representatives of the M.E community and other universities, independent researchers and stakeholders will take part

The Observatory is conducting six inter-related research studies, funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund as follows :-

1.Health and Social Services
2.Treating People with M.E
3.National Disease Register
4.Occurrence and Severity of M.E
5.Quality of Life
6.Literature Review and Services Database

You can click on each of the above links to find out more details about each of the research studies.
